December mock exam: Learner Response

1. WWW: Rayan, some fair attempt in this paper. Signs of knowledge/understanding e.g Q5 and Q2 (20 Marker Q's. EBI: However, some careless mistakes and gaps in your knowledge - missing block work? Not reading the  Q's clearly? 2. Non-diegetic sound is only heard by the audience and not the characters. For example a sound track. 3.  Next, identify   three  points you could have made in Q1.3 - camerawork and the extract. Look for the indicative content in the mark scheme - these are the suggested answers from AQA. The opening shot in the extract focuses on the omelette in Will’s hand – almost a close-up – with handheld camera movement following the plate to the table. This focus on the food Will has cooked seems to establish him as the less dominant person in the relationship. The medium shot of Lyra suspiciously looking at the food reinforces this power imbalance in their relationship. • Camera angle is used in an interesting way in the extract. Statement of intent.

MY STATEMENT OF INTENT   "The Disenchanted" is a new TV fantasy drama which will appear on the streaming service Netflix part of their original series. A show that subverts stereotypes by featuring 3 black 15-year-old girls, Aliya, Huda and Ifrah. This narrative choice challenges the lack of diversity in the BAME community of the fantasy genre, offering a inclusive perspective to the 232 million subscribers on Netflix. The storyline begins in a park as Ifrah and Huda enjoy a day out (equilibrium). However, Ifrah out of boredom decides to Challenge Huda to enter the 'Forest of Secrets' without going insane, in reality a black figure awaits Huda from 'The Other World' (disequilibrium). As entering the forest the protagonist a Unknown figure fills Huda's mind with hallucinations leaving her confused . Whilst Ifrah waits anxiously she becomes worried and decides to call upon Aliya for help . This narrative disruption introduces an element of escapism and dive

Preliminary exercise learner response

WWW: You have displayed some excellent editing and technical skills throughout this preliminary exercise. You established the fantasy genre through good use of conventions such as: SFX, great costume (the black leather jacket worked well in your project and in Aliya’s). I liked the cut shots which built the enigma of the chase scene and the upside down camera angle was a clever touch - very Stranger Things-eque. EBI:  For the actual chase scene I wondered if you could have included a variety of camera shots and angles to increase the overall pace of the chase because at times it felt slow and monotonous with just the over-the-shoulder shot. 3 WWW:  - My preliminary exercise fits the genre of fantasy. - It includes a chase scene -Costume  3 EBI: - Not a lot of different shots - Unclear story behind it - Not long enough 3 things i will do next time: -Film beforehand and not rush the filming - More characters - Spend more time on editing

My fantasy drama consists of a chase between 2 characters, a faceless character who plans to taunt the helpless victim a 15-year old  school girl . The scene is set in a isolated  unnamed forest/field  area I plan to film when its cloudy to set the scene of enigma and to emphasise the plot a chase. It will start of as a harmless walk past a forest trying to make her ways back home.  She then begins to here a weird sound coming from the forest, her curiosity gets the best of her and she reluctantly walks closer to seek discovery. She then enters deeper into the forest and a dark figure is seen and the chase begins. The girl will be dressed in casually clothing and the chase will take place in a walking trail in the beginning but then shifts into a forest. I will film the chase within 8 scenes with my filming consisting of a variety of shots but majority
