January assessment learner response
WWW: Rayan, a fairly decent attempt during this film assessment. Good knowledge of vertical integration, how films are marketed.
EBI: Although your response to the 20 marker Q6 is good. You need to comment more on how the 2 films marketed themselves and that benefitted or limited their success.
Write down the mark you achieved for each question:
Q1:1/1
Q2:0/1
Q3:5/8
Q4: 2/2
Q5:2/2
Q6:10/20
I missed out on 1 mark questions as i wasn't confident with media codes and the Stuart Hall's.
3) Look specifically at question 3 - did you successfully write about both the preferred and oppositional readings? Did your answers match any in the mark scheme? Copy in one answer from the mark scheme that you could have used.
I would deem my answer as a success as i achieved 5/8, which is only 3 marks off.
answer 1: the ideal message the producers want the audience to believe in is that women are just as strong as men.
answer 2: that women aren't just built to fit in with the stereotype that women are just cooks and cleaners. That women can work and look after there children whilst men are at war.
answer 3:It is proven that men are stronger than women so women should not take over men jobs as they can't handle the amount of work done.
MARK SCHEME:Women are portrayed in a subversive / non-conventional way as their strength and independence is highlighted by the image (pose / pride in facial expression etc.)
4) Now look at question 4. Write a definition of vertical integration plus the benefits of it to revise this key industry terminology. Vertical integration is when one conglomerate owns different companies in the same chain of production. This is beneficial as it allows smaller companies to gain recognition and widen their audience.
5) Finally, look at your 20-mark essay - question 6. Then, write a new essay plan for this question, using the suggested answers in the mark scheme and the exemplar to help you. Use a format like this:
It is not difficult to agree that independent film productions gain less recognition and cannot compete with Hollywood Blockbusters. This is due to the fact of the significant difference between profit made, production budget and marketing strategies. Hollywood blockbuster films are high quality production values and have specialist facilities they also feature well-known actors such as Scarlett Johansson who starred in Black Widow making the fan base wider and allowing a bigger profit. However, independent films such as ' I Daniel Blake' starred in up and coming actors not known globally unlike Hollywood blockbusters making the movie exhibited in only 24 countries and gain less recognition.
'I Daniel Blake' is a British low budget film made by Ken Loach who has been a director for over 50 years. The film released in 2016 is a drama that has a strong political message about Britain and spreads a message of the strict economic policies that the government has placed to control debt. As the film is a low budget film, the production cost was a amount nowhere near the amount of the Hollywood blockbuster film Black Widow. We know the funding was around about 2 million and the film gross was 11 million and received a wide range of good critics. In order to promote ' I Daniel Blake'
